Thanksgiving 2010: Woodstove

One year ago, we bought our house. We finished the second building (office, guest house, etc) and are living in that while we re-do the main house. Today we installed our woodstove in the main house. First steps were building the hearth from slate we found in the yard, and constructing an air tight metal face also from found aluminum sheeting. The stove is the same model we had in our other house. We loved it so much, the moment we saw it on craigslist, we grabbed it.

for the video geeks- this was made on a Panasonic GH-1 with a 20mm pancake lens. i am still learning how to use it and i didn't have my external mic on, so you hear the auto focus a bunch. next time it won't happen, i swear.

Videoblogging Week 2010: Tuesday

when you live in a rural place, you drive a lot. it's 7 miles to the nearest town. but it's totally beautiful, so that's ok. the purple flowers on all the trees are my favorite.

Rural Broadband

this is my rural broadband story. things i talk about in this video include page county virginia, hughesnet (check out their service plans and bandwidth limits - top tier service which allows a whole 500mb a day for $350 a month, no joke), highspeedLINK (our new local provider who gives us unlimited bandwidth hurray!). if you or someone you know does not have access to broadband, check out and sign their list.

if you would like to share this video, here is some embed code, just copy and paste:
